At OnSmart, we believe in the power of innovation and collaboration to make a positive impact. We are excited to share a heartwarming story of partnership that has not only transformed lives but also contributed to a cleaner and safer environment, especially during these challenging times.

Speco, a social enterprise founded in 2017, embarked on a journey towards becoming a high-tech cleaning solutions provider. In 2018, they began their research and development efforts to create a sustainable and biodegradable antimicrobial coating. By 2021, Speco had successfully transitioned into a high-tech cleaning solutions provider, offering innovative services to meet the growing demand for disinfection.

The COVID-19 pandemic brought unprecedented challenges, but it also presented opportunities for businesses to make a difference. Speco seized this moment, recognizing the need to support vulnerable groups who couldn't afford regular disinfection services. They rallied their partners and stakeholders to contribute in ways that aligned with their business goals.

Since 2020, Speco has been collaborating with special education schools such as APSN and MINDS to assist in the production process of their cleaning solutions. To date, they have worked with over 91 social service agencies and upskilled more than 300 individuals.

What sets Speco apart is its commitment to hiring marginalized workers from various backgrounds, including ex-offenders and individuals with mental health backgrounds. Their dedication to social impact was recognized when they received the Champion of Good award in 2020. This year, Speco was honored with the Organisations of Good Award at the President's Volunteerism & Philanthropy Awards 2021 (PVPA 2021).

Speco was one of five winners in this category, alongside prominent organizations like Jardine Matheson Group of companies, FoodXervices Inc Pte Ltd, Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore, and Caregivers Alliance Limited. The PVPA 2021 featured 12 award winners across four categories, showcasing initiatives that span various causes and sectors.

President Halimah Yacob, the guest of honor at the event, emphasized how the COVID-19 pandemic had reinforced the importance of building a caring and cohesive society. The award winners were celebrated for their outstanding contributions, which ranged from promoting racial and religious harmony to empowering at-risk youth and providing employment opportunities for communities in need.

As we navigate the challenges brought by COVID-19, the spirit of volunteerism and philanthropy in Singapore has only grown stronger. Seah Chin Siong, Chairman of the National Volunteer & Philanthropy Centre, highlighted the unwavering determination of Singaporeans to support those in need.

President Halimah also emphasized the importance of cross-sector partnerships, exemplified by initiatives like the Paediatric Emergency & Neonatal Care Project. Through collaboration with the East Java Provincial Government, this project led to a significant reduction in infant mortality rates at Surabaya Haji General Hospital.

The PVPA 2021 serves as a testament to the collective effort of individuals, organizations, and leaders of goodwill. It recognizes the positive impact that can be achieved by working together to uplift communities and create meaningful change.

At OnSmart, we are proud to partner with organizations like Speco, who share our commitment to innovation, social impact, and a better future.
